Quick Guide: Low Headroom Sectional and Rolling Door Products for Tight Space Environments

Posted by Jai Patel on Wed, Nov 25, 2015 @ 06:26 PM

In NJ and New York City, space is a premium.  There are really 3 different ways to do an overhead door or rolling door with low headroom.  I have made a quick guide for my customers.

1.  Rytec Spiral Lowhead Room Rolling Door / Low Clearance Garage Door

  • This door is appropriate for high-traffic situations while meeting the low headroom requirements of parking garages and other commercial structures.
  • The low lintel design only needs 11 inches of clearance at headroom.
  • The motor is compact with variable speeds allowing up to 60 inches per second.  It has soft acceleration and deceleration for smooth starts and stops.

Parts of a Sectional Door

Posted by Wendell Daguno on Mon, Apr 07, 2014 @ 08:33 PM

Sectional Doors Sectional Doors

Whether your business already has a sectional door installed or you are considering at as option for your convenience and security needs, it is important to know how the door operates so you can use it properly and make sure you obtain the maintenance it requires. The key to understanding the operation is observing the most important parts of a sectional door. Here are a few of the parts you’ll find on most of the common sectional doors on the market today.

Track – The track section is what guides the door up and out of the way when it is not being used.

Motor – A motorized sectional door is the standard today. A motor is what operates the opener and moves the door as necessary.

Sectional Panels – Each panel is separate from the one next to it. This allows the door to fold or roll up on itself when it is in the open position.

Hinges – This is what holds together the adjacent sections of the door. With a sectional door, this is vital for holding the door together but allowing it to move.

Springs – Springs are what make the door open and close as it should. Without a spring, the door would just fall to the floor. It is vital that springs are checked out regularly to make certain they are operating as they should.

If you have any questions about your sectional door or are considering installing one in the future, call or contact the team at The Overhead Door Company of the Meadowlands and NYC. We would love to help!

Rolling Steel Doors or Sectional Doors: Which One's Better?

Posted by Wendell Daguno on Sun, Mar 09, 2014 @ 10:16 PM

You just moved in to a new place and noticed that your garage door needed replacement.  You searched the internet for the best garage door provider in the area and a lot of companies appeared then realized that you also have the option to choose either a rolling door or a sectional door. But which one is better? A rolling garage door or a sectional garage door? Which among the providers is the best? This article will help you with your choices and enlighten you between the differences of a rolling door and a sectional door.

Although they are sometimes considered to be interchangeable, there are dramatic differences between Rolling Steel doors and Sectional Doors. Some of these differences are based on materials, durability, installation and pricing. But before we come to a conclusion of which one’s the better option, let’s take a look at these differences.

Rolling Steel Doors are metal slatted doors that roll up to store in coil above the opening. They are used to provide security against entry or weather protection at exterior and interior openings in industrial, commercial, institutional and other buildings. They are also called overhead coiling doors or service doors while Sectional garage doors are normally made from much lighter gauge materials. For example, the 24” tall panels are typically 24 gauge or nominal 24 gauge, where rolling steel curtains are made of individual 3” tall slats of 22 to 18 gauge material. The guides of a commercial sectional garage door are typically roll-formed 16 or 14 gauge, where rolling steel guides are typically made from 3/16” to 1/2” thick structural steel angles.

Rolling Steel DoorsRolling Steel Door

Heavy duty commercial/industrial grade Rolling Steel Doors are built to last the lifetime of the building with very little cost of maintenance, where sectional garage doors typically have a life expectancy of only a few years with significant maintenance cost.

Sectional garage doors typically float up and overhead into the building while heavy duty Rolling Steel Door are mounted to the face of the wall and supported by the vertical wall and require no connection to the ceiling or roof structure. Sectional garage doors are typically mounted to the vertical face of the wall, but the horizontal track must be supported from the ceiling or roof structure.

Sectional Steel DoorSectional Door

And lastly, sectional doors may cost less than rolling steel doors but overtime, heavy duty rolling steel doors may save more as you will have to spend less service and maintenance on it.

In summary, rolling steel doors are of heavier duty and sustainable construction. Also, Rolling Steel Doors have mounting advantages that make them uniquely suitable for specific applications.

Meanwhile, if you are looking for the best doormen in the area, you are in the right place!

Overhead Door Company of The Meadowlands & NYC has been in business of changing doors since 1981 and has built quite a reputation on some ground breaking installation projects such as New Meadowlands Stadium, NY Yankee Stadium, NY Mets Stadium  , Meadowlands Xanadu Mall to name a few. Difference Between Insulated and Non-Insulated Sectional Doors

Posted by Elizabeth Aceves on Wed, Jul 24, 2013 @ 05:17 PM

Difference Between Insulated and Non-Insulated Sectional Doors

When you are shopping for commercial doors, the sheer number of choice can be a bit overwhelming. One of the options you may be drawn to are sectional doors. However, even within this industrial door category, you are left with a couple of options. Should you choose an insulated or non-insulated door? Learn more about the two different options and determine which will be the best option for your loading dock, storage area or other commercial door needs.

Sectional Doors

Insulated Sectional Doors

Insulated sectional steel doors are ideal for any business that requires temperature control. This would include facilities such as warehouses, cold storage units, firehouses, restaurants and even municipal buildings. These commercial overhead doors can work to keep cold air out too. This is ideal in the cold New Jersey Winters! Finally, there are other benefits to using an insulated door too. They are generally quieter and sturdier than the non-insulated types.

Secitonal Door

Non-Insulated Sectional Doors

While insulated doors are normally a preferred option. There are certain instances that you may choose one of these non-insulated doors. The up-front cost is often less; however, this may be reduced by the increased energy bills that occur when you have non-insulated doors. The most important thing is to make the right choice for your particular business.

Sectional Door

When it comes time to purchase a sectional steel door for your place of business, it is important to be well-informed. Spend some time browsing the options available here at the Overhead Door Company of the Meadowlands and New York City. Commercial Doors: Sectional Doors VS Rolling Doors

Posted by Elizabeth Aceves on Fri, Jul 19, 2013 @ 06:33 PM

Sectional Doors VS Rolling Doors

dilema

There are so many options when it comes to commercial doors. Depending on the area you are securing, separating or monitoring access to, you may want a particular type. However, when it comes down to it, we sell two main types here at The Overhead Door Company of The Meadowlands and New York City, sectional doors and rolling doors. Within those two types, you will find several different subtypes.

Learn more about commercial sectional doors and commercial rolling doors, as well as the subtypes we offer, so you have a better idea what type of door you need for your particular commercial need.

Commercial Sectional Doors

Sectional doors are created with convenience in mind. These doors work with a controller that can make opening and closing them a breeze. With options like Thermacore, sectional doors are a great choice for spaces that need temperature control. Today’s sectional doors are well constructed for reliable use and minimal maintenance required. Some of the more popular types of commercial sectional doors available at The Overhead Door Company include the following:

  • Advanced Sectional Doors – For advanced performance, many industrial and commercial buildings need a simple, well-rounded sectional door. The advanced sectional doors at The Overhead Door Company offer climate control, ease-of-use and durability. While useful in a number of situations, these are a great choice for commercial garages.
  • Thermacore Doors – For industries that need the upmost in thermal efficiency, the Thermacore door is a perfect solution. These thick doors keep temperatures at a steady level, saving you money over time.
  • Sectional Steel Doors – For one of the best combinations of heavy-duty workmanship and convenience, sectional steel doors are a great solution. You often find these doors on fire stations, commercial garages and retail establishments.
  • Aluminum Doors – Aluminum doors offer a sense of architectural style while still providing protection and the ability to easily open and close your commercial door. This is a good choice for buildings where it is important to make a good impression.
Sectional Doors

Commercial Rolling Doors

Rolling doors, also known as rolling shutters, are created to protect the contents within an establishment. These doors are easy-to-secure and allow you to protect the interior of your commercial structure. Certain styles are used within buildings, to separate sections of a building into individual areas.

  • Advanced Service Doors – When service AND security are important, one of these advanced service doors is the perfect solution. They offer the fast open and close cycles that are in line with a sectional door; however, you get the increased security of a rolling door.
  • Rolling Steel Doors – A standard rolling steel door is the go-to option for loading docks at warehouses, factories and storage facilities. It offers great security at a great price.
  • Fire Rated Doors – In certain buildings, such as schools and hospitals, a fire rated door is a necessity—both for safety and to meet the regulations of the city or county. These fire rated doors offer many of the same options of our standard service doors with the added fire rating.
  • Counter Doors (Counter Shutters) - When you have a service counter, such as at a snack bar, service counter or ticketing area, you need a way to protect the space when the counter is closed for the day. A counter door is the perfect solution—you can find many of the same features as are available in normal service doors.
  • Security Grilles - Security grilles allow line of sight into a specific area, but still provide security and protection. These are often used in shopping malls, airports and similar spaces where it is necessary to close down certain areas while leaving the main walkway open.
Rolling Doors

As you can see, there are a number of options when it comes to commercial doors. Taking the time to understand the types of available doors will make it easier to decide on which type is best for your particular structure.

Additionally, the door is constructed with a dual-barrier that creates a virtually impenetrable path for air leakage and infiltration between door sections, and PVC thermal breaks that reduce heat and cold transfer from front to back of the sections.

Like many of the commercial garage door products available from The Overhead Door Company, the Sectional Thermacore AP 850 series is available in several basic colors, so you can choose the right one for your particular outdoor color scheme. Additional features are available on this door including high-cycle springs, high-usage components, electric commercial operators and other options. This level of design flexibility is one of the most popular features of the Thermacore doors.

It may be that you are more interested in rolling doors or other types of industrial doors. Do not forget to check out the Rolling Steel Stormtite AP 627 Series recently launched as well. Here at The Overhead Door Company, your satisfaction is always our number one concern, so we try to stay ahead of the competition when it comes to offering a variety of options in commercial and industrial doors, operators and the accessories you need for your commercial garage or loading dock area.
